Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 7 May) is Internal Affairs, the incredible underseen 1990 crime thriller.
The film revolves around Los Angeles police officer Dennis Peck (Richard Gere), a divisive figure who is loved by those loyal to him but looked on with suspicion by others.
"His disreputable behaviour and dubious finances arouse the suspicion of Internal Affairs, and Sgt. Raymond Avila (Andy Garcia) and his partner (Laurie Metcalf) are assigned to investigate," the plot synopsis adds.
"When a series of witnesses are murdered, Avila realises his life is in danger, along with that of his wife, Kathleen (Nancy Travis)."
Directed by Mike Figgis (the Oscar-winning Leaving Las Vegas), Internal Affairs' cast also includes Annabella Sciorra and William Baldwin.
Thanks to Richard Gere's fascinating and chilling against-type villainous turn and the movie's twisty story (as Peck attempts to drive a wedge between the Avilas, the title takes on a double meaning), the crime thriller has garnered a major cult following.
The film was even included in The New York Times Guide to the Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made, based on reviews written in the paper from 1929 to 1998.
Internal Affairs is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on the channel Legend at 12.30am. The crime thriller is also streaming on Paramount+.
