Worthy winners of this category last year, Dermot and Dave have showed no signs of slowing down in 2016, winning the General Music Programme category at this year’s PPI Awards, where Dermot Whelan took home the Music Presenter of the Year award.
The pair host easily one of the best shows on the radio. It's so good in fact, that we’re willing to tolerate the seemingly ceaseless sound of Dermot’s voice on a certain advertising campaign you may have heard of late.
You probably found yourself screaming at his face on the TV at some stage during the season, but there’s no denying that Brolly is box-office.
Sure, he’ll shout an opinion that he might not necessarily be able to back up and he is now slouching so far back in his chair he might as well be lying on the floor, but he remains one of the most recognisable and most entertaining faces on Irish television.
Quote of the Year
Michael Lyster: “Who’ll win the replay, Joe?”
Joe: "Galway, because Roscommon are useless and they’re getting worse!”
A guy who has to host a show that serves as the nation’s watercooler and lasts for three hours every week is going to struggle to be universally popular, but in our opinion, Ryan Tubridy is doing a pretty decent job.
After another well-received edition of the Toy Show, his stock is pretty high at the moment and we can’t see him vacating the hotseat for some time yet.
Part of the reason the Late Late gets criticised is that it has to go up against a monster in the form of Graham Norton’s show every Friday night.
Having been hosting the show for nearly a decade, Norton has the formula down to a tee at this stage and regularly brings out the best of a series of A-list guests.
The red chair has been a highlight as always in 2016; this one was probably our favourite.
