JOE’s five favourite Jeff Bridges film roles

Don’t agree with us? Well, y’know, that’s just, like, your opinion man.

To mark the release of R.I.P.D. this week, JOE decided to take a look at some of the best roles of the film’s star, the legendary legend that is Jeff Bridges.

R.I.P.D. is a supernatural comedy film directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, RED) and is based on the Dark Horse Entertainment comic book, Rest in Peace Department by Peter M. Lenkov. Starring JOE favourites Ryan Reynolds and the aforementioned Bridges as two undead police officers, R.I.P.D. is scheduled for release today, September 20 2013.

The Big Lebowski (1998)

There really is only one clear choice as to what the greatest ever Jeff Bridges role is and, if we could choose this particular Coen brothers classic five times in a row, we would. In fact, we don’t know why we can’t and we’re going to huff for the rest of the day because of it.

It is, of course, Jeff Bridges as The Dude, His Dudeness, Duder or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.

It’s The Big Lebowski:

Tron (1982)

Brilliant in the crackin’ cult classic that is Disney’s Tron, Bridges starred as Kevin Flynn, the computer programmer who is transported into the incredible software world of a mainframe computer and has to interact with various programs in his quest to get back out.

And no, we don’t talk about the really weird Uncanny Valley version of Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy though.

It’s just weird:

True Grit (2010)

Proving that Bridges can do no wrong when he teams up with the genius Coen brothers, True Grit was an excellent film topped off by the iconic actor’s perfect, pissed performance as rootin’, tootin’, shootin’ Marshal Rooster Cogburn.

Here he is in the film’s (slightly graphic) interrogation scene with our very own son of Eire, Domhnall Gleeson:

Iron Man (2008)

Charming and scheming all at the same time, Bridges was the perfect villainous foil to Robert Downey Jr.’s cocky man-in-a-can hero as he played Stark Enterprises VP, Obadiah Stane. The best bit? He got to whip some serious ass when kitted out in his deadly Iron Monger suit:

The Big Lebowski (1998)

And finally, but most certainly not least, it’s Jeff Bridges as… that’s right folks, you guessed it, The Dude in The Big Lebowski.

WHAT!? It really is that good it’s in twice. Deal with it.

Don’t agree with us? The Dude has just the answer for you:

R.I.P.D. is released in Irish cinemas today, September 20 2013.
