He's also chats about the upcoming Star Wars wrap party once Episode IX is done and dusted.
Back in 2013, Idris Elba helped save the world in Guillermo Del Toro's massive monster mash-up, but (SPOILERS!) he lost his life in the process.
Five years later and John Boyega has taken up the mantle as Elba Junior, or as he is known in the movie Jake (son of Stacker) Pentacost, for the even bigger robots-versus-monsters blockbuster Pacific Rim Uprising.
Del Toro was off making the Oscar-winning The Shape Of Water so hasn't returned to direct the sequel, but in his place is Spartacus and Netflix's Daredevil helmer Steven DeKnight, and he has thrown Boyega in the deep end with some truly humongous set-pieces.
We had the opportunity to set down with Boyega to talk about his part in the movie, and we cover everything from his first-time producer role, to his love of ice cream and sprinkles, to his emerging bromance with co-star Scott Eastwood, to getting his own version of Idris' famous "Cancelling the apocalypse!" speech.
And yes, what he reckons the Star Wars wrap party is gonna be like once they're finished filming this trilogy.
Pacific Rim Uprising is unleashed in Irish cinemas from Friday 23 March.
