Not only did many of the presenter's jokes not land but his opening monologue has caused controversy.
The Golden Globes took place last night and while there has been a rapturous response to Cillian Murphy taking home a Best Actor prize for Oppenheimer, there was much less enthusiasm for the awards show's host Jo Koy.
Known for his several Netflix specials, Koy's opening monologue at the ceremony saw him joke about Oppenheimer being too long, Barbie being based around a doll, Robert De Niro recently having a baby and the drug Ozempic.
The presenter also compared the dysfunctional, wealthy characters of hit TV drama Succession to the Royal Family.
Many of Koy's remarks were met with a muted response to near silence while there has even been reports of booing.
In response, the presenter mid-monologue shifted the blame for this to his joke writers and to him only being hired to host the Golden Globes "10 days ago".
Speaking about Barbie, Koy said: "The key moment in Barbie is when she goes from perfect beauty to bad breath, cellulite and flat feet. Or what casting directors call: character actor."
Not earning the response he wanted, the host then added: “Some I wrote, some other people wrote.
“Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You’re kidding me right?
"Slow down, I wrote some of these and they are the ones you are laughing at.”
Jo Koy slated for opening remarks at Golden Globes, which included rude Barry Keoghan joke
These comments about his joke writers have been met with controversy, particularly following the Hollywood writers' strike last year.
One of Koy's few quips that landed on the night, meanwhile, was a particularly rude one revolving around Barry Keoghan in Saltburn.
"Is Barry Keoghan here? Where's Barry Keoghan seated? Oh right there. Where is your penis seated? Down front? That was the real star of the show," sending the Irish actor into fits of laughter.
The comedian added: "If you haven't seen Saltburn, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about so watch it. Then you'll understand what I was talking about.
"And then right after that watch Barbie and then you're going to be like: 'Something's missing.'
"And then watch Maestro and you'll be like: 'Oh, there it is, it's on Bradley Cooper's face.'"
Understandably some people found Koy's joke pretty immature.
