Judge Dredd himself is coming to Dublin this summer

Dave Hanratty

Karl Urban Dublin

You may remember Karl Urban from such movies as Thor: Ragnarok, The Chronicles of Riddick, Dredd…

…the Star Trek reboot series, The Bourne Supremacy, Doom, The Lord of the Rings series and a great deal more. He even appeared in the likes of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys when cutting his teeth as an actor.

And with a CV like that, he’s the perfect candidate to pitch up at this year’s Dublin Comic Con.

Urban joins Star Trek: The Next Generation star Michael Dorn as a special guest during the three-day event, which takes place in the Convention Centre at Spencer Dock from 10 – 12 August.

The New Zealand native will be making a real fist of it with Q&A discussions, signings, panels and all the assorted merriment that usually goes down at these things.

He’ll also no doubt he’ll be fielding questions about the future of Dredd, having recently talked up the possibility of revisiting the character in either a sequel or a TV series spin-off.

Tickets for Dublin Comic Con are now on sale at the official Dublin Comic Con website.

And in case you’ve yet to actually check out the 2012 take on the whole Judge Dredd thing, go out of your way to do so immediately as it’s really rather great and Urban is utterly perfect in the lead role.

It’s a bit like The Raid – okay, a lot like The Raid – only with some innovative use of slow-motion and a villainous turn from Lena Headey that rivals anything she’s done on Game of Thrones.

Get on it.
