Ayo Edebiri is set to have company as an honorary Irish woman.

Marvel stars Dan Stevens and Kathryn Newton have spoken about their love for Ireland in an interview with JOE, with the latter even saying that she wants to live in the Emerald Isle.

We spoke to the pair about their new horror movie Abigail, which has a huge Irish connection. Not only was it filmed in Ireland, but its co-writer Stephen Shields is Irish – as is actress Alisha Weir who plays the title character.

When JOE asked if the two had any standout memories from being in the country, Ant-Man actress Newton said:

“I love Ireland. I want to live in Ireland. I love it. I went to Dún Laoghaire every weekend. Dalkey, The Country Bake, the people.

“I ate a lot of sausages. I did play a lot of golf. We played like every weekend. I played some incredible course.”

Legion star Stevens then added: “It was a fantastic place to work. Incredible crew over there. I’ve shot in Ireland before. I did The Man Who Invented Christmas over there. A lot of familiar faces from that crew on Abigail.

“Yeah, every weekend, [I’d] just go in a different direction out of Dublin and find some extraordinary natural beauty. I went to The Burren and up to Donegal and Wicklow. The Wicklow mountains are unbelievable.

“So yeah, very very special place to get to work.”

As our Zoom interview with the pair ended, Newton signed off by adding: “Have a sausage roll for me. They’re so good.”

JOE also spoke to Abigail actress Melissa Barerra and asked if she had asked her Carmen co-star Paul Mescal for Irish travel tips.

“I actually didn’t. I should have. I was just so excited to be in Ireland. I’d always wanted to go and I fell in love,” she told us.

“It’s such a beautiful country and such beautiful people. Everyone is so kind and the crew there was incredible. So talented but also so nice.”

Speaking to JOE alongside Alisha Weir, she added: “I just loved that I had time to actually like drive around the country because I had time off while you [Alisha] were shooting your attack scene with other characters.

“So, I got to rent a car and drive all around Ireland and I just loved that.”

Abigail is in cinemas on Friday.
