Very sad news.

American actor Kevin Conroy, best known for voicing Batman, has died at the age of 66.

His rep Gary Miereanu said in a statement to TMZ that the actor passed away following a short battle with cancer.

Conroy first voiced the caped crusader in Batman: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1995 and has been hailed as being one of the best animated shows of all time.

Due to the popularity of Conroy’s portrayal of Batman, the actor went on to voice the character in various other media, including more animated shows, as well as movies and video games.

Along with voicing the famed comic book character, Conroy also had roles in popular shows like Cheers, Dynasty, Kennedy and Matlock.

His Batman: The Animated Series co-star Diane Pershing was the first to break the news of Conroy’s death, writing on Facebook:

“Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday (Thursday, 10 November).

“He’s been ill for a while but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the joy of all of his fans.

“He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world.”
