The cult-classic will be a trilogy. Snoochie Boochies.
What’s a good plate with nothing on it?
That was the question that Jay posed to us all in 1994 when Kevin Smith’s Clerks was released and from the first moment that the world was introduced to Randal and Dante, things have never been the same.
Aside from being a defining film for Gen Xers everywhere, the trials and tribulations of the people that hung out at the Quick Stop is still a bonafide cult-classic.
Dante famously said “You know what the real tragedy about all this is? I’m not even supposed to be here today!” but thank god that he was because as previously discussed, there’s something that’s still incredibly true and poignant about Smith’s debut.
It still holds up.
As fans of the film will know, there are usually a bunch of savages in most towns, Pringles cans are death traps, title does not dictate behaviour, jizz moppers make decent money, don’t knock over a casket at a wake, and never let strangers use the company bathroom.
The 2006 sequel, Clerks II, was pretty decent also as it saw Randal and Dante sort of grow up. This being said, it’s impossible to forget the image of Jason Mewes doing his best imitation of the Buffalo Bill dance from Silence of the Lambs.
Haunting.
Anyway, after cementing his career with the View Askewniverse, Smith will be returning to the Quick Stop because he has announced that he’s working on a new draft of a script for Clerks 3 with original cast members Jason Mewes (Jay), Brian O’Halloran (Dante) and Jeff Anderson (Randal) confirmed to return.
In a post to Instagram, Smith said: “We talked about making a movie together. It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga. It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilisation in the great state of New Jersey.
“It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and Brian, with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called Clerks III! To be great is to go on. To go on is to go far. To go far is to return. And we’re all gonna return to the scene of the crime!,” Smith wrote.
As for Smith’s immediate future film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, is set to be released in the US on October 15. Here’s hoping that it’s picked up and released in Ireland too.

Snoogens.
