The video for Kneecap's newest song, 'Irish Goodbye'. paints a raw portrait of generational trauma.
While the Belfast trio are not exactly known for holding back, the latest single from their upcoming album Fenian (out on 1 May) hits in a completely different way.
The track, and the short film which accompanies it, is a stripped-back and deeply personal exploration of grief.
Centred on Móglaí Bap’s reflection on the loss of his mother, the video portrays ordinary moments and the heaviness that lingers in a room, a glance, or a memory.
The expression ‘Irish Goodbye’ is known to mean leaving without saying goodbye; however, in this context, it carries a much darker explanation.
Rather than avoiding awkward farewells from parties, it’s about the kind of exit that leaves no closure behind, one you can never prepare for or fully process.
