A very fun action movie is airing on TV tonight

The film spawned a sequel series, which ran for two seasons.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 12 September) is Legion, the very fun 2010 action horror starring Paul Bettany (WandaVision).

The film sees the actor play the Archangel Michael, who falls to Earth after rebelling against God. His reason for this is that God has lost his faith in humanity, sending the rest of his angels to bring about an apocalypse.

To combat this, Michael hacks off his wings, loots a weapons warehouse, and travels to a diner under siege near the edge of the Mojave Desert in Los Angeles.

His mission is to protect a pregnant waitress (Adrianne Palicki, John Wick), whose unborn baby is destined to be humanity's saviour, from a horde of incoming supernatural threats.

Directed by Scott Stewart (Dark Skies, Priest), Legion co-stars Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3), Dennis Quaid (The Substance), Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy), Kevin Durand (Abigail), Lucas Black (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift), Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) and Willa Holland (Arrow).

Comically dubbed "Angels with Uzis" upon release, the movie was not well received by critics for the most part but was a hit at the box office.

Watch the trailer for Legion below:

We're siding with audiences on this one. The film's great cast, its religious riff on The Terminator, and its bottle setting - whereby the fate of the world hinges on what happens in a small diner in the desert - make Legion worth a watch or revisit.

The movie also spawned a sequel series that ran for two seasons titled Dominion.

The original Legion is airing on TV tonight on Film4 at 11.05pm. It's also available to rent on Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, Prime Video, Rakuten TV and the Sky Store.
