At long last, a trailer for Y: The Last Man is here

Stephen Porzio

The series, which was originally to star Barry Keoghan, is set to premiere this autumn.

Few projects have had as rocky a road to the screen as Y: The Last Man, the TV series adaptation of the post-apocalyptic science fiction comic book of the same name.

Since development began on the series in 2015, original showrunners Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green left the show over creative differences.

That was before Ireland’s own Barry Keoghan – who was set to play its lead character – also exited the project, while the Covid-19 pandemic delayed production on the series last year.

However, filming did eventually commence and following a few casting and production shake-ups, a trailer is finally here.

The plot synopsis for the show reads: “Y: The Last Man takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a cataclysmic event has killed every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one man, Yorick Brown, and his pet monkey Ampersand.

“The series follows Yorick as he traverses the new world as its survivors struggle with their losses and attempt to restore world society, led by Yorick’s mother and incumbent U.S. President Jennifer Brown.”

Ben Schnetzer (Pride) replaces Keoghan as Yorick, while Diane Lane (Man of Steel) will play his mother.

Eliza Clark (Rubicon, The Killing) will serve as showrunner on the series, which will also star Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours), Ashley Romans (NOS4A2), Diana Bang (The Interview), Marin Ireland (The Empty Man) and Olivia Thirlby (Dredd).

Y: The Last Man is set to premiere on 13 September on FX on Hulu in the US and is expected to be released in Ireland through Star On Disney+ sometime after that.
