The plot thickens.
It has been a year and a half since Making A Murderer burst onto our Netflix screens. The Netflix original took the world by storm as it followed the story of Steven Avery, a man that had been charged with the murder of Teresa Halbach although he claimed he was completely innocent.
According to Rolling Stone, Kathleen Zellner, who is the attorney for Avery, has added another twist to the bizarre story by claiming that Halbach’s ex, Ryan Hillegas, is the actual murderer.
Zellner filed her 1,272-page motion to the state of Wisconsin which states that her client, who is currently serving life in prison for first-degree intentional homicide, deserves a new trial “in the interests of justice”.
Avery has been in jail since 2005 on this charge but his attorney has been fighting hard for him and has even made 220 pages of a petition which argues that Hillegas’ jealousy of Halbach’s love life motivated his actions.
Halback began a sexual relationship with her roommate, Scott Bloedorn, following the breakdown of her relationship with Hillegas and if this is the case, Hillegas committed perjury at the trial when he described the relationship of the pair as never romantic or sexual in nature.
This detail becomes important, Zellner argues, because Hillegas should have been investigated more thoroughly as a suspect given that he did have a motive to commit the murder and because he didn’t have an alibi for where he was on October 31st, 2005, the day Halbach was killed.

Avery’s current attorney was hired back in January 2016 and has said from day one that he was wrongfully convicted of the murder and stated that it was the result of vindictive law enforcement officers looking for a reason to lock him up.
Avery’s nephew, Brendan Dassey, confessed to detectives that he helped his uncle rape and kill Halbach at the Avery family salvage yard, as documented on Netflix’s hit series, Making a Murderer.
Last August, however, a federal judge overturned Dassey’s conviction, though he will remain incarcerated while the state appeals his overturned conviction.
Production of a second season of Making A Murderer is currently under way and while bosses at Netflix have said it will arrive sometime in 2017, Zellner’s website states that “Making a Murderer Season 2 is set to coincide with Zellner’s appeal.”
We need season two now and we need answers quickly.
