Scorsese’s new Netflix show with huge star returns to setting of his ’90s classic

The series also comes from the creators of the hit TV drama Billions.

The currently untitled eight-part show takes place in the present day, in a "modernised but still dangerous version of the legendary city".

"At the centre of it all stands Robert 'Bobby Red' Redman (Isaac, who will also produce the project), president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground," the plot synopsis adds.

The series comes from showrunners and writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Billions). The pair are no strangers to the world of gambling, having made their screenwriting debut with the cult poker thriller Rounders, before later penning the Vegas–set heist caper Ocean’s Thirteen. 

Scorsese will executive produce the show, having explored the world of Las Vegas in his fantastic Oscar-nominated 1995 epic crime drama movie Casino, which starred Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci.

The legendary filmmaker also produced HBO’s hit drama series Boardwalk Empire, which was set in the East Coast’s Las Vegas, Atlantic City. 

Director J.C. Chandor - who worked with Isaac on A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier - will direct the first two episodes of the new Netflix show.

The series has yet to begin shooting. Netflix has not set a release date for the project.
