Mission: Impossible – Fallout director explains why the new film opens with Tom Cruise in Belfast

Eoghan Doherty

Ethan Hunt was in Ireland and no one told us!?

Christopher McQuarrie is some man.

Not only is he a super-talented writer (The Usual Suspects) and a super-talented director (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), but he’s also pretty much best friends with the biggest star in the world, Tom Cruise, having made a whopping nine films together in the past 11 years.

Their latest cinematic adventure sees Ethan Hunt and his elite team of IMF agents take on the maniacal Solomon Lane once more, with our heroes jet-setting all over the world as everyone’s-favourite-secret-agent-who’s-not-Jason-Bourne-or-James-Bond gets the big summer blockbuster ball rolling in Belfast at the start of the film.

We caught up with the director in Paris to chat about some truly spectacular stunts, secret Terminator Easter Eggs and and we wondered why he decided to bring Hunt to Ireland (especially since there’s nothing really to hang off here).

Enjoy…

Mission Impossible – Fallout is in Irish cinemas now and you can check out the amazing adrenaline-pumping trailer right here…
