A new show to replace Claire Byrne Live is also set to air in January.

Filling the “doom-and-gloom” void left behind by the ending of Claire Byrne Live, RTÉ has announced a new eight-part current affairs series to discuss the latest issues facing the nation.

Monday Night Live is set to begin the first Monday of October at 10.35pm.

The new panel show will be dedicated to focusing on problems around Ireland, as four panellists join a presenter in studio along with live contributions from other guests.

David McCullagh, Sharon Tobin, Louise Byrne and Mark Coughlan have been announced as the hosts, taking two episodes each for the season.

Major issues set to be discussed on the show include the housing shortage, childcare, and climate change.

The first episode will be directed at the cost-of-living crisis, and the challenges the public will face going into colder autumn and winter months.

“I know so many people are feeling the impact of the spiralling cost of living every day, it’s one of the first things people are talking about,” said David McCullagh, ahead of hosting the first edition.

“We are going to take an in-depth look at an issue on our new programme, hear from some of those affected, and see what solutions might help them.”

McCullagh will be joined by both Government and opposition politicians, and will speak to business owners, economists, industry figures and others affected by the crisis.

“Our Monday Night Live series will provide an opportunity to really delve into the issues impacting people’s everyday lives this autumn and winter,” said Paul Maguire, Interim Managing Editor, RTÉ TV Current Affairs.

“Each hour-long programme will provide the time and space to bring together those in power and those directly impacted by the issue under discussion. As well as examining the cause and effect, we will hear from experts and explore potential solutions.”

In case you were missing Claire Byrne Live as well, a new current affairs series with a live studio audience is being launched in January 2023.

Until then, you can watch Monday Night Live, starting 3 October at 10.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
