Monster has been picked up by Netflix for two more seasons

We will see a focus on other monstrous figures, in the upcoming seasons.

All those Monster season two Google searches finally have a positive ping. The popular series is coming back for at least two more Netflix runs.

Netflix has picked up Monster for two further instalments after the huge critical success and viewership for its season focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Monster will move away from the Dahmer storyline in season two and become an anthology story, The Hollywood Reporter notes, much like American Horror Story. The series will feature ‘stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society’, according to Netflix.

Also getting a second season on Netflix is The Watcher, which starred Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale and picked up over 340 million hours of worldwide viewing since it was released, three weeks ago.

On bringing back Monster for what would be seasons two and three, Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria declared:

“Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world.

“The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations, and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”

Murphy and Brennan created ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, before teaming up with Narcos supremo Eric Newman on The Watcher.

Monster season two

Monster season two, and three

Evan Peters starred as Jeffrey Dahmer in the first instalment of Monster. The drama about the infamous serial killer was the third biggest Netflix series of all time, coming in behind Squid Game and Stranger Things 4.

Also known as the ‘Milwaukee Cannibal’ or the ‘Milwaukee Monster’, Jeffrey Dahmer killed and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

While The Watcher quickly surpassed 250 million hours watched in its’ first fortnight, it has a ways to go to top Monster, which is at 941 million hours, and counting.

There had been talk of Disney coming back in for Murphy, who was a creator on Glee, after his current deal expired in July 2023, but the streamer has tied him, and two popular shows, down.

It is unclear, at present, what ‘other monstrous figures’ that could be included in Monster season two and three, but expect them to stay on that serial killer track. One thing is for sure, Evan Peters will not be involved. The actor said he wants his next role to be ‘a normal person’ and is slated for a dark comedy with Jon Bernthal, which is still in pre-production.
