A solid Gerard Butler action flick is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

The 2013 thriller launched a franchise.

On the hunt for something to watch tonight?

Well, Amazon Prime Video has quietly added 10 big movies to its library.

However, if none of them are for you, here’s what the movies on TV situation looks like this Tuesday.

Olympus Has Fallen – Film4 – 9pm

Gerard Butler plays a former Presidential Secret Service Agent who must save the US President (Aaron Eckhart) when terrorists invade the White House.

Notably one of two films released in 2013 about a terrorist attack against the White House – the other being White House Down – Olympus Has Fallen certainly doesn’t reinvent the blockbuster action movie wheel.

That said, director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) stages some tense sequences and Butler is his charismatic self, while being backed up by a solid cast including Angela Bassett, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo and Robert Forster.

Audiences in general seemed to enjoy the flick as it was a hit at the box office and spawned two sequels – London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen.

Inglourious Basterds – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s incredible WWII-set epic would definitely have been JOE’s pick for tonight if not for the fact we already spotlighted it recently in this column.

Pitch Black – ITV 4 – 9pm

Another first entry in an action franchise, although one with sci-fi and horror elements, Pitch Black introduced audiences to Vin Diesel’s iconic anti-hero Richard B. Riddick.

White Chicks – Comedy Central – 9pm

Critically panned upon its release in 2004, this comedy about two black FBI agents (Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans) who go undercover using whiteface as women to solve a kidnapping plot has gone on to be considered a cult favourite.

The Caine Mutiny – True Movies – 9pm

This ’50s military drama boasts a great turn from classical Hollywood star Humphrey Bogart.

Journeyman – Film4 – 11.20pm

Acclaimed actor Paddy Considine (Dead Man’s Shoes) writes, directs and stars in this sports drama about a boxer who suffers a serious head injury in a fight and how it impacts on his life and family.

Deep Blue Sea – Turner Classic Movies – 12.10am

While it’s no Jaws, the undoubtedly silly yet entertaining Deep Blue Sea is one of the better films about a killer shark.
