An extremely tense ’90s thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

Well, Amazon just added 17 big movies to Prime Video which you can read about here.

However, if you need more options, here are the films airing on TV this evening (18 October).

Ransom – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Our pick for tonight is this ’90s thriller from director Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Rush) in which Mel Gibson plays a multi-millionaire named Tom Mullen whose son is kidnapped.

While Tom initially agrees to pay the ransom, he then appears on television offering the ransom as a bounty on the perpetrators.

With its ticking clock premise and surprising twists, Ransom is a cut above your standard Hollywood thriller.

It also boasts terrific performances from its ensemble cast which also includes Delroy Lindo, Gary Sinise, Lili Taylor and Rene Russo.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw – RTÉ2 – 9pm

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast & Furious characters team up to stop a terrorist played by Idris Elba in this spin-off.

The Conjuring – Sky Showcase – 9pm

In this supernatural horror that is perfect for Halloween, a pair of paranormal investigators (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) work to help a family terrorised by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

Casino Royale – ITV4 – 9pm

Daniel Craig’s first and arguably best outing as Bond, James Bond.

Rush Hour 2 – Comedy Central – 9pm

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan return in this hit buddy action-comedy sequel.

Terminator: Dark Fate – Film4 – 9pm

This decent sixth entry in the Terminator franchise saw the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor.

Itsy Bitsy – Horror Xtra – 9pm

In this American horror, a family moves into a secluded mansion where they soon find themselves being targeted by an entity that takes the form of a giant spider.

She Never Died – Horror Xtra – 10.55pm

This Canadian horror comedy about a woman with a mysterious past tracking down those responsible for a person’s disappearance has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – Turner Classic Movies – 11.30pm

Guy Ritchie directs this fun and stylish movie adaptation of the old spy series of the same name.

The Ring – Film4 – 11.35pm

This excellent American remake of the Japanese horror about a cursed videotape turned 20 years old this very day.

Loving – BBC Two – 11.45pm

Irish actress Ruth Negga earned an Oscar nomination for this beautiful drama telling the true story of a couple arrested for being in an interracial marriage in ’60s Virginia.
