An underrated Martin Scorsese flick is among the movies on TV tonight

Simon Kelly

Movies on TV - Cape Fear

Robert De Niro is terrifying in the starring role.

On the lookout for a great flick to watch tonight? Then you’re in the right place. There some excellent choices among the movies on TV later on.

So have a look below and check out what’s in store for this Sunday evening..

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – ITV2 – 5.20pm

The first of the Fantastic Beasts series to feature among the movies on TV tonight stars Eddie Redmayne in this Harry Potter prequel. Colin Farrell is excellent as the villainous auror, Graves.

Now You See Me 2 – E4 – 5.30pm

A not very good ensemble magician heist flick starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco.

Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit – FilmFour – 6.50pm

Whoopi Goldberg returns once again as Delores who once again becomes Mary Clarence to help save her old school.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald – ITV2 – 8pm

Much more bloated and nowhere near as good as the first, there’s not much magic in this sequel.

Equals – BBC Three – 9pm

Set in a dystopian future, Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart play a couple who regain feelings in a world where emotions are treated like disease.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – FilmFour – 9pm

While the movie isn’t as great as its predecessor, it’s always fun to watch Tom Cruise doing Tom Cruise things.

Seven Pounds – Great! Movies – 9pm

Will Smith stars as a man who sets out to help the lives of seven different people in order to redeem himself.

The Meg – RTÉ One – 9.30pm

With the (very disappointing) sequel currently in the cinemas, why not watch the first and much better original giant shark flick?

The Spy Who Dumped Me – E4 – 10pm

Action comedy starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon as two friends trying to escape through Europe after it turns out one of their boyfriends is a CIA agent.

Ammonite – BBC Two – 10pm

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan star in this romantic historical drama about a fossil hunter who enters an intense relationship with a young woman in 1840’s England.

Rambo: First Blood Part II – ITV4 – 10.45pm

Keeping up the “Rambo is always on TV” trend.

Glass – FilmFour – 11.20pm

The third and final chapter of M Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy, Glass brings the characters from Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016) together to cap off an utterly bizarre but entertaining enough series of flicks.

Manhattan Night – Great! Movies – 11.25pm

2016 crime thriller starring Adrien Brody as a New York City crime reporter who is approached by a woman in need of help solving her husband’s death.

Cape Fear – BBC One – 11.30pm

Movies on TV - Cape Fear

Our pick of the movies on TV tonight is the seventh collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro for this 1991 psychological thriller.

De Niro stars as a convicted rapist who is released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence and begins to enact revenge of the lawyer who put him away.

By no means Scorsese’s best of his career, but Cape Fear is an excellent addition to the directing master’s back catalogue and definitely one of his most underrated. De Niro is excellent as the terrifying as Max Cady, a role which earned him a Best Actor nod at the Oscars. The movie itself is a pulpy thriller that won’t disappoint if you stick it on later.

Downsizing – Channel 4 – 12.55am

2017 sci-fi comedy where Matt Damon stars as a man who shrinks his body to start a new life in an experimental community, only for his wife to back out last minute.
