An incredibly named folk horror classic is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

Claw

This one is for fans of Midsommar or The Wicker Man.

Netflix just added one of the best Irish movies of last year to its platform. However, if you need more viewing options tonight, here are the movies on TV this evening.

Mindhunters – Legend – 9pm

Not the similarly titled recently cancelled Netflix show but the very average 2004 slasher about a group of FBI profilers who must uncover a killer in their midst.

Christian Slater and Val Kilmer are among the cast.

Lethal Weapon 4 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

As of now, the final entry in the Mel Gibson/Danny Glover-fronted buddy cop franchise.

Mechanic: Resurrection – Film4 – 9pm

A forgettable Jason Statham action sequel.

Nacho Libre – Comedy Central Extra – 10pm

“Get that corn outta my face!”

We recently interviewed Jack Black’s co-star in this 2006 cult comedy Ana de la Reguera, who explained that Nacho Libre was actually supposed to be a very different movie.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome – ITV4 – 10.15pm

Mel Gibson again, this time starring in his last movie as the lone roving post-apocalyptic warrior “Mad” Max Rockatansky which sees him joined by pop star Tina Turner.

Slumdog Millionaire – Film4 – 10.55pm

Trainspotting director Danny Boyle’s Oscar Best Picture winner which sees a Mumbai teenager (Dev Patel) reflect on his life after being accused of cheating on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

The Golem – Horror Xtra – 10.55pm

This Israeli period supernatural horror has an impressive 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Blood on Satan’s Claw – Legend – 11.05pm

Our pick for tonight is this 1971 movie set in 18th-century England about a rural village whose youth fall under the influence of a demonic presence.

This is after a local farmer discovers a mysterious deformed skull buried in a field.

Boasting one of the spookiest titles of all time, a cool setting and story and a handful of genuinely creepy performances from its young cast, The Blood on Satan’s Claw is now considered a pioneer in the folk horror sub-genre alongside Witchfinder General and The Wicker Man.

The sub-genre has seen a resurgence of late with the likes of Apostle, Midsommar and The Witch.

Bring It On – Comedy Central Extra – 11.45pm

The classic teen cheerleading comedy starring Kirsten Dunst.
