Movies on TV - First Man

It’s got 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re in the mood to chill on the couch this evening in front of a good flick then you’re in luck, as there are plenty of great movies on TV for you to choose from tonight.

Our pick of the bunch is a critically acclaimed drama that doesn’t get the attention it deserves – First Man.

The 2018 biopic stars Ryan Gosling as US astronaut Neil Armstrong and follows the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969.

Directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land), the movie also stars Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Christopher Abbott, and Ciarán Hinds.

Upon its release at the Cannes film festival, First Man received huge praise from critics, particularly for Chazelle’s direction, Gosling and Foy’s performances, its musical score, and the Moon landing sequence.

However, there was some controversy with the film’s decision not to show Armstrong planting the American flag on the surface of the Moon, which some US critics slammed for being unpatriotic.

Despite its acclaim, First Man received a pretty poor showing at the box office and doesn’t really get talked about much any more, especially in a time where biopics are becoming such huge box office draws.

So if you want to check out the under-the-radar film, you can catch it on Film Four at 1.10am. It will also be available to watch on their online player after it airs.

If First Man isn’t your thing, here are the other movies on TV tonight
