Starring Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega, the movie launched a franchise.

Prime Video has just added a sci-fi thriller with a strong Irish connection but if you’re looking for more to watch, here are the movies airing on TV tonight.

Aliens – ITV4 – 9pm
Director James Cameron takes the reigns on this Alien follow-up, which is widely considered as being one of the best sequels of all time.

In a Valley of Violence/Bone Tomahawk – Legend – 9pm/11.05pm
A pretty incredible indie Western double bill on Legend this evening. We’ve recommended In a Valley of Violence and Bone Tomahawk separately before.

21 Bridges – Virgin Media One – 9pm
The late and great Chadwick Boseman stars as an NYPD officer on the hunt for two cop killers in this very solid action thriller that JOE has also recommended in the past.

Peppermint – Film4 – 9pm
Jennifer Garner is out for vengeance in this watchable vigilante action thriller from the director of Taken.

Austin Powers in Goldmember – Comedy Central – 9pm
The third and final entry in the Austin Powers series.

Parallel – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm
This Canadian sci-fi thriller has an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Mia Goth in X, our TV movie pick for tonight

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – RTÉ One – 9.35pm
A sequel to the smash hit musical rom-com based around ABBA songs.

Schindler’s List – RTÉ2 – 9.45pm
Liam Neeson stars in Steven Spielberg’s powerful Holocaust drama, which won seven Oscars including Best Picture.

The Flock – Legend Xtra – 10.50pm
Claire Danes and Richard Gere headline this thriller as department of public safety agents on the hunt for a missing girl.

The Jerk – TG4 – 10.55pm
This comedy marked Steve Martin’s first starring role in a movie and is now considered one of the funniest films ever made.

X – Film4 – 11pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2022 slasher horror about a group of young filmmakers (including Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega and Brittany Snow) in 1979 who gather to shoot an adult film on an elderly couple’s rural Texas property.

However, the cast and crew eventually find themselves a target of the hosts.

Written and directed by Ti West (the aforementioned In a Valley of Violence), X is basically a blend of Boogie Nights and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Upon release, the movie was a hit with audiences and critics thanks to its dark comedy, its stylish evocation of the ’70s and Goth’s incredible dual performance.

Launching a franchise, which also includes the prequel Pearl and the upcoming sequel MaXXXine, X is available to rent on Apple TV and Rakuten TV. Check out its trailer right here:

The Others – BBC Two – 11.05pm
Nicole Kidman stars in this fantastic ghost story.

Transamerica – RTÉ One – 11.40pm
Felicity Huffman was Oscar-nominated for her performance as a trans woman who goes on a road trip with her long-lost son in this indie drama.
