Here are the 11 best movies on TV this Saturday

Movies on TV Saturday 24 November

The weekend has landed. Watch a film.

Or a couple of films. Or even three films if that’s what you’re into.

Saturday is traditionally a decent day for movies on the box, and today – Saturday 24 November – is no exception.

It’s a strong line-up, so choose wisely…

Paddington – RTÉ One – 6.35pm

An absolute delight of a film and perfect for the entire family.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army – ITV2 – 8.10pm

Tremendous wit and invention from the mind of Guillermo del Toro.

Even if you haven’t seen the first Hellboy (it’s something of a cult favourite), dive on in for Ron Perlman’s excellent performance as the title character and some terrific set pieces.

Mad Max: Fury Road – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

Told you Saturday was good for movies.

Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t just the greatest chase film ever made, it’s one of the best action adventures we’ve been blessed with.

Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron head up the post-apocalyptic carnage.

JFK – TG4 – 9pm

Kevin Costner shines in Oliver Stone’s epic account of the assassination of American President John F. Kennedy and the subsequent fallout.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall – ITV Be – 9pm

Smart break-up affair boasting the comedy stylings of Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Paul Rudd and Russell Brand.

Now You See Me – Film 4 – 9pm

Decent magician romp with an all-star cast.

The Transporter – E4 – 9pm

The making of Jason Statham as a legitimate action hero.

Snake Eyes – Universal TV – 9.20pm

Nicolas Cage and his loud suit take point in Brian De Palma’s tricky conspiracy thriller that has a good cast (Gary Sinise is an underrated actor, is he not?) and a brilliant opening sequence.

It loses its way by the end, but Snake Eyes is something of a noble failure.

The Fugitive – ITV4 – 11pm

Harrison Ford cheats death repeatedly with Tommy Lee Jones in pursuit.

Criminal – Channel 4 – 12.30am

That man Kevin Costner again, this time leading the way for a strange convoluted thriller that is difficult to make sense of largely due to Costner’s constant mumbling.

Support comes from Gary Oldman, Gal Gadot, Michael Pitt and Ryan Reynolds. Honestly, this one is a mess, but therein lies its charm.

Machete Kills – Film 4 – 1.25am

Bonkers follow-up to Machete. Remember when the Grindhouse revival was a thing?
