It features three leading men you might not expect to see in a movie together.
Netflix has just added one of the best comedy movies of recent years and an acclaimed new crime drama from the creators of Narcos.
But if you need more things to watch, here are the films airing on TV tonight.
The Magnificent Ambersons – BBC Four – 8.30pm
Orson Welles’ beloved directorial follow-up to Citizen Kane.
Jaws – ITV4 – 9pm
Steven Spielberg’s legendary shark thriller.
White House Down – Film4 – 9pm
Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx headline this White House-set action flick that is arguably better than the similarly premised Olympus Has Fallen which came out the same year.
Blade: Trinity – Quest – 9pm
The final and worst entry in Wesley Snipes’ superhero vampire trilogy.
Killerman – Legend – 9pm
Liam Hemsworth headlines this 2019 action crime movie which earned mixed reviews from critics.
Robert De Niro and Jason Statham in our TV movie pick for tonight – Killer Elite
Judgment at Nuremberg – BBC Four – 10.50pm
This epic ’60s courtroom drama with a star-studded cast centres around four German judges who served on the bench during the Nazi regime facing a military tribunal to answer charges of crimes against humanity.
Spring – Legend Xtra – 10.50pm
This sadly underseen indie centres on a young American man (Lou Taylor Pucci) who travels to Italy and falls in love with a woman (Nadia Hilker) he meets there. Unbeknownst to him, however, she harbours a dark secret.
An oddly compelling mix of Lovecraftian horror and a Before Sunrise-esque love story, we have recommended Spring many times before.
Killer Elite – ITV4 – 11.40pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2011 action thriller which is set in the ’80s and follows Danny Bryce (Jason Statham), one of the world’s deadliest special-ops agents, as he returns from self-imposed exile after his mentor, Hunter (Robert De Niro), is captured.
In order to free Hunter, Danny is tasked with killing three former members of Britain’s Special Air Service, all the while dodging the Feather Men (fronted by Clive Owen), a shadowy group whose mission is to protect ex-SAS men.
Based on a novel by Ranulph Fiennes, directed by Northern Irish filmmaker Gary McKendry and also featuring amongst its cast Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One), Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) and Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Killer Elite boasts plenty of major talent.
And though it may be far from the heights of De Niro’s output at his peak, it does make for a solidly watchable action flick.
As well as airing on TV tonight, Killer Elite is also available to rent on Apple TV. Check out its trailer right here:
Mean Girls – Film4 – 11.40pm
