There are actually quite a few romantic movies to choose from this evening…

The Valentine’s Day Movies Menu has some more romantic options than usual, but don’t worry, if you’re not in a particularly romantic mood this evening, there are plenty of other options to choose from too…

Sense & Sensibility – FilmFour – 6.15pm

Ang Lee’s gorgeous adaptation of the Jane Austen classic romance novel features Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant.

The Dukes of Hazzard – Comedy Central – 9pm

Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott and (checks notes) Jessica Simpson star in this modern remake of the classic TV show. It… isn’t very good.

Assassins – ITV4 – 9pm

Stallone is the best assassin in the world, but he wants to retire. But there is no retiring from this job, and the new best assassin in the world (Antonio Banderas) has been assigned to take him out. 16% on Rotten Tomatoes feels right.

Four Weddings and a Funeral – FilmFour – 9pm

One of the most beloved rom-coms ever made, starring Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Ransom – TCM – 9pm

Mel Gibson’s son has been kidnapped, but instead of paying the ransom, he publicly uses it as money for anyone who helps catch the kidnappers. A very good, tense, twisty thriller.

The Bourne Identity – Sky Showcase – 9pm

The first of Matt Damon as the amnesiac super spy movies.

The Shape of Water – FilmFour – 11.20pm

Winner of four Oscars – including Best Picture and Best Director – and nominated for nine more, our main pick for tonight is Guillermo Del Toro’s unique take on the romantic genre. Focusing on a lonely janitor (Sally Hawkins) working in a top secret government facility in the 1960s, who begins to develop a relationship with a creature being held captive there.

The fantastic cast also includes Octavia Spencer, Doug Jones, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins and Michael Stuhlbarg, if this doesn’t put you in the mood for romance on Valentine’s Day, then we’re not sure anything can!

The Duke of Burgandy – FilmFour – 1.50am

A very sexy romantic drama about a complicated relationship between a teacher and one of her students. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes feels right.
