An underrated blockbuster is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Terminator Salvation

Your Saturday evening movie menu is here!

Thrillers, rom-coms, true-life dramas and even some horror is in the mix for your Saturday night on the couch!

The Informer – RTE 2 – 9.30pm
Joel Kinnaman plays an ex-convict who is hired by the FBI to go back into prison as a mole. But when he gets discovered, it puts his entire family at risk. A decent crime thriller.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One – Sky Showcase – 9.30pm
The third of the Hunger Games movies, good to catch up before the impending prequel hitting cinemas later this month.

Robin Hood – Comedy Central – 10pm
The one starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan. Not quite sure why its on Comedy Central. Might have something to do with its 15% on Rotten Tomatoes…

Military Wives – FilmFour – 10pm
Sharon Horgan stars amongst the cast of this true story of a group of wives of military personnel who set up a choir while their partners fight in Afghanistan.

High Fidelity – TG4 – 10pm
A fantastic rom-com starring John Cusack, Lisa Bonet, Jack Black and Tim Robbins.

Van Wilder: Party Liaison – Comedy Central – 12.15am
A not-so-fantastic rom-com starring Ryan Reynolds and Tara Reid.

Terminator Salvation – FilmFour – 12.15am

Our main pick for tonight is Terminator Salvation, the fourth entry in the Terminator franchise, and to date the only one to actually take us to the future, into the depths of the post-apocalyptic war. Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Helena Bonham Carter and Bryce Dallas Howard star in the massive blockbuster, which while doesn’t hold a candle to the first two Terminator movies, should still be absolutely commended for some exceptional set pieces, including a one-take helicopter crash sequence! If you miss it tonight, Terminator Salvation is also available to watch on Sky Go or with a NOW Cinema Membership.

Pavarotti – RTE 2 – 12.35am
Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Rush) directs this documentary about the life and talent of the infamous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions – BBC One – 12.45am
The horror sequel borrows some ideas from a Hunger Games sequel, putting all of the surviving contestants together for a big violent blow out.
