A truly underrated horror is among the movies on TV tonight

Rainy Monday evening is perfect movie viewing conditions.

Netflix has just added 11 big movies to its library, but if none of those suit, then maybe one of these movies on TV tonight will be more to your liking…

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – ITV2 – 6.05pm

The second one. The worst one.

A Good Year – FilmFour – 6.40pm

Russell Crowe reunited with his Gladiator director for this rom-com about working on a vineyard. It is not a good movie.

First Blood – ITV4 – 9pm

Sly Stallone is brilliant as the Vietnam vet struggling with his memories of the war, finding himself getting into trouble with the police department of a small town in America.

Hummingbird – Sky Showcase – 9pm

The creator of Peaky Blinders is behind this mid crime thriller with Jason Statham. Oddly forgettable.

Underwater – FilmFour – 9pm

Our pick for the night is Underwater, an intriguing mix of sci-fi and horror, which… yes… does just feel like someone asked “What if Alien were set at the bottom of the ocean?”, but if you’re going to rip something off, you might as well rip off the best of the best.

Kristen Stewart stars as one of the crew of a drilling expedition on a rig seven miles below the surface, and one of the few survivors of a catastrophic accident that cuts them off completely from the world above. And just as they begin to form a plan of action for a safe escape, they discover that they are very much not alone down there…

Cinderella Man – TG4 – 9.30pm

Russell Crowe again, this time in a much better movie, playing real life boxer James J Braddock, who was happily retired but decides to step back into the ring during the Great Depression.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines – FilmFour – 10.50pm

There was a time when this was the most expensive movie ever made. Not anymore.

Death Wish IV: Crack Down – ITV4 – 11.05pm

On The Basis Of Sex – BBC Two – 11.15pm

Felicity Jones headlines this biographical legal drama, portraying Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and her epic fight for equal rights and against discrimination in the courtrooms. Jack Reynor, Armie Hammer, Kathy Bates and Justin Theroux fill out the impressive supporting cast list.

Picture Perfect Lies – Virgin Media Three – 12.30am

A TV movie about a murder at a Sweet Sixteen party. It looks AWFUL.

American Woman – FilmFour – 1am

With a score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, this emotional drama starring Sienna Miller, Aaron Paul, Christina Hendricks and Sky Ferreira could be worth a look.
