Rory Cashin

Netflix

Netflix kicks off December with plenty of new additions.

If you plan it out just right, Netflix has added one movie for you to enjoy every night of December, except for New Year’s Eve, but you’ll probably have other plans for that evening.

THE AMERICAN

George Clooney headlines this slick but sombre assassin thriller.

ANOTHER ROUND

One of the best movies of the decade.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt both won Oscars for their performances in this off-kilter romantic comedy.

BACKDRAFT

A classic 90s action movie in which a group of firefighters (including Kurt Russell, Robert De Niro and one of the Baldwins) try to track down a serial arsonist.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB

“You see us as you want to see us – in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal.”

D-TOX

Sylvester Stallone headlines this serial killer thriller set in an isolated rehab clinic. 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.

FURY

Brad Pitt is the leader of a group of tank operators in the depths of WWII. A very good wartime action drama.

GHOST TOWN

A man (Ricky Gervais) is brought back to life, but he can now communicate with the dead. A very cute rom-com.

GONE BABY GONE

This very dark kidnap drama was the directorial debut of Ben Affleck, and it stars his brother Casey, as well as Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, and Michelle Monaghan.

GOOD WILL HUNTING

This Matt Damon/Ben Affleck/Robin Williams classic turns 25 years old this week.

HANCOCK

Will Smith is a drunken superhero who tries to get his life back on track. Co-stars Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron. The first two-thirds are pretty fun.

LAST NIGHT

A decent romantic drama revolving around four people (Keira Knightley, Eva Mendes, Sam Worthington, Guillaume Canet) and how one night apart for their partners send them down some complicated paths.

THE LAZARUS PROJECT

We’ve never even heard of this one. Paul Walker, Piper Perabo and Linda Cardellini star in this 2006 crime thriller. 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.

LET HIM GO

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane star in this thriller about an older couple looking to save their daughter-in-law and grandson from a dangerous situation.

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane tries and fails to make a funny western. Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson co-star.

PULP FICTION

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children.”

THE RAVEN

John Cusack stars as Edgar Allan Poe in this serial killer thriller based around a series of murders based on the famous author’s stories. Brendan Gleeson, Luke Evans and Alice Eve co-star.

ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES

“Don’t tell me it’s not worth fighting for / I can’t help it, there’s nothing I want more / You know it’s true / Everything I doooooo/ I do it for youuuuu…”

THE RUNDOWN

All these years later, this is probably still The Rock’s best action movie.

SAUSAGE PARTY

An all-star cast voice various food items in an overly horny supermarket in this adults-only animated comedy.

SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET

Based on the true story of a mountaineer (here played by Brad Pitt) who becomes a close confidant of the Dalai Lama.

SHOOTER

Mark Wahlberg is a shooter who gets blamed for shooting someone, but he didn’t shoot that someone. How will he solve this problem? By shooting someone else.

SMALL SOLDIERS

The director of Gremlins brings chaos home again, when a batch of new toys get an upgrade with military technology, only for them to become sentient and start to take over a small town.

SPANGLISH

Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni play an unhappy couple who have their lives impacted by the arrival of a woman (Paz Vega) who is forced to leave her home in Mexico.

STUART LITTLE & STUART LITTLE 2

Michael J. Fox voices a talking mouse. M. Night Shyamalan co-wrote the script for the first one. The second one is even better.

TEARS OF THE SUN

The director of Training Day teams up with Bruce Willis for this soppy war movie.

THAT’S MY BOY

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg star in this painfully unfunny comedy.

THIS IS 40

The sorta-sequel to Knocked Up focuses on Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann as they reach a mid-life crisis in their marriage.

YOUNG ADULT

Charlize Theron is a bit of a mess in this darkly funny comedy from the writer of Juno.
