Thankfully, Billy Walsh and Vinnie Chase are nowhere to be seen.

Netflix are making a drama series about famed Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar.

In news that surprises us, in that it hasn’t been done before (unless you count Billy Walsh and Vincent Chase’s abysmal ‘Medellin’*), ‘Narcos’ will follow the exploits of the notorious drug cartel run by one of the most famous gangsters the world has ever known.

Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor, will play the role of Escobar and the show will be directed by Jose Padilha, fresh from bringing the ‘Robocop’ reboot to the big screen.

Both Padilha and Moura previously worked together on Elite Squad, which focused on a special forces unit in the Brazilian military.

Netflix has commissioned an initial 10 episodes of ‘Narcos’ and the show will begin filming in Colombia soon and will be available on the online streaming service in early 2015.
