A new film has been awarded the highest ever score on Rotten Tomatoes

We have a (new) winner.

Rotten Tomatoes boasts a new top dog this week (or should we say, bear) in the form of Paddington 2, the new film that has officially claimed the top spot on the wildly popular film and television review site.

The film has been receiving rave reviews since its premiere back in November, with audiences the world over lauding the “irresistible family-friendly fantasy that could wind up giving “sweetness and light” a good name.”

The plot of the well-loved children’s film is all about the now happily settled Paddington who, following a hilarious display of partaking in odd jobs, buys the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen.

It features the all-star cast of Hugh Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and Brendan Gleeson, with some even agreeing that Paddington 2 far surpasses the movie’s original.

The website’s ‘tomatometer’ has given the film a flawless 100% with an average rating of 8.6/10. The film has been reviewed a total of 165 times on the site, with the average audience score hitting an impressive 90%.

New Yorker film critic Richard Brody critiqued the film, saying:

“[Paddington 2] has one out-loud laugh, plenty of sincere cleverness, vast technical ingenuity, a warm heart, lively performances and enough gyroscopic camera moves to make Max Ophüls jealous.”
