Netflix has just expanded its library with 13 big movies

Rory Cashin

This week’s weather looks awful, stay in and watch one of these instead.

Movies are great, aren’t they?

Especially when the streaming services add in big movies that we might not have seen in a while, or better yet, some brand new movies get added to their libraries!

Amazon Prime Video added a big selection to their service this week, and now Netflix has followed suit with these 13 arrivals:

AGAINST THE ICE

Jamie Lannister himself (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) stars as an explorer who is accidentally left behind while on an expedition in Greenland in 1909.

ALIVE

Ethan Hawke fronts this adaptation of the true story of the Urugyuan rugby team who crash-land in the Andes mountains and are forced to turn to extreme measures in order to survive.

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

Due to a personal crisis, a family reunite in their home in Oklahoma and it isn’t long before old wounds are brought to surface. With this cast – Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis – it was clear the makers thought this was going to be an Oscar magnet. Instead, it is an absolutely average, very watchable comedy drama.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Jim Carrey’s best movie (don’t @ me). A mind-bending rom-com about a man who attempts to have memories of his ex-girlfriend (Kate Winslet) erased from his mind, only to change his mind at the last minute, resulting in an epic sci-fi trip through his own brain.

THE EXPENDABLES

Stallone gathers a group of his action star mates – Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Steve Austin and Mickey Rourke, with cameos by Arnie and Bruce Willis – for this old school action movie. It is… fine.

THE EXPENDABLES 2

Same as above, but with the addition of Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Liam Hemsworth. It is the most violent and most fun of the three.

THE EXPENDABLES 3

Same as above, but with the addition of Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammar, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford. It is the worst of the three.

THE INFORMER

A convict-turned-informant (Joel Kinnaman) gets himself purposefully put back in prison in order to infiltrate the mob while in there. A very decent thriller co-starring Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen and Ana de Armas.

MEET THE FOCKERS

The sequel to the hit movie about meeting you awkward in-laws (who also happen to be former CIA agents), Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro are joined by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand on the cast list.

MILLION DOLLAR BABY

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this powerful, multi-Oscar winning drama about a determined woman (Hilary Swank) and her hardened trainer (Eastwood) as they attempt to go pro.

NIGHTRIDE

A Belfast-based criminal tries to pull off one last job, hoping to make it out with enough money to finally go legit, but things don’t go according to plan. We chatted to the movie’s star Moe Dunford, and you can watch that interview in full right here:

PATRIOT’S DAY

Mark Wahlberg headlines this incredibly tense true story of the police officers and government agents who attempt to track down the men responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing.

THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS

A documentary about identical triplets who were separated at birth but are successfully reunited decades later, only to discover a family secret with huge personal repercussions.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
