Also… (listens closely)… is that what we think it is?
It is, isn’t it?
It is an orchestral version of ‘Reflection’, that lovely song from the animated original version of Mulan, sung by Christina Aguilera.
Fantastic.
Although we shouldn’t expect too many more similarities between the original and this live-action take on the much-loved Disney movie – not too many talking dragons here – as the 2020 version seems to be leaning heavily into Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon territory.
In case you didn’t already know, as far as the plot goes, when the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honoured warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father.
Masquerading as a man, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honoured warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation… and a proud father.
In the latest trailer, we can see the beautiful, stylish fight scenes, as well as our first proper look at this movie’s villain, in a hugely impressive shot that follows him and his gang from running towards a wall, to running right up it.
Following on from the box office successes of The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast and The Jungle Book, expect this to do similarly huge business when it arrives early next year.
Starring: Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Gong Li, Tzi Ma, Jason Scott Lee
Irish release date: 27 March 2020
Enjoy!
