New Netflix series should be perfect viewing for this Halloween

Stephen Porzio

Fans of the horror genre will definitely want to check out this anthology show.

Though it’s only August, Netflix has already begun giving viewers a peek at some of its new and spooky originals it will be releasing ahead of this year’s Halloween.

One of these is Cabinet of Curiosities, an eight-episode horror anthology series created by Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (Nightmare Alley, The Shape of Water).

In the first trailer for the project, del Toro explains how the series is something that he has always wanted to make, stating:

“In this anthology, we gave ownership of each episode to the directors. Each of the episodes has a whole world. They present you with different delights.

“Some are savory. Some are sweet. You get a surprise from each of the bites.”

The filmmaker also says that a goal of the show was to create great monsters that were also beautiful and made with practical effects.

“With Cabinet of Curiosities, what I’m trying to say is: ‘Look, the world is beautiful and horrible at exactly the same time,” he added.

The series will feature two stories from del Toro and will also adapt two stories from legendary horror author H.P. Lovecraft.

This is as each episode will be directed by a filmmaker known for working in the horror genre.

These include Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), David Prior (The Empty Man), Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy) and Vincenzo Natali (Cube).

On top of this, the episodes will feature actors such as Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Ben Barnes (Westworld), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), Eric André (Bad Trip), Essie Davis (The Babadook), F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Peter Weller (RoboCop), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will be released in the run-up to Halloween, with two episodes dropping each day between 25 and 28 October.
