The new title and poster for the Jurassic World sequel spell doom for mankind

Rory Cashin

“Life finds a way…”

So goes the tagline to what will surely be one of the biggest movies of 2018.

Those who remember the 1992 original will remember that it is a line spoken by Dr. Ian Malcolm – the World’s Sexeist Chaotician? Discuss… – right before life did indeed find a way, and then that life digested a high percentage of the population of Isla Nublar.

That call-back makes double-sense here, as Jeff Goldblum will be returning to the character for the first time since The Lost World, back in 1997, and he’ll be joining Jurassic World alumni Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and B.D. Wong, as well as being joined by franchise newbies Ted Levine (from Silence Of The Lambs), James Cromwell (from Babe), Rafe Spall (from Prometheus) and Toby Jones (from Captain America).

Now, on to the poster and the new title, which we will discuss below…

… Hmmm. Interesting.

“Fallen Kingdom” could simply refer to the Jurassic World park itself, and may see the cast having to return to it for (fill in any number of reasons here), but that would essentially be a rehash of Jurassic Park III, and from what we’ve heard, this will be taking the series in a brand new direction.

This entry is being directed by J.A. Boyona (The Orphanage, The Impossible, A Monster Calls), and he spoke to Spanish outlet Scified about the sequel, claiming:

“It will be darker and scarier then the previous film. Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in The Empire Strikes Back or the Wrath of Khan which are the examples you always get. The film takes the story where it has never been before. To me it surprised me. We are going to places where the saga has never been before, and at the same time we are paying tribute to the franchise. We will take it a step further. There are things that will happen that people are not expecting and they really are shocking.”

Comparison to The Empire Strikes Back? Claims that it will be scary and shocking? Where do we sign up??

Despite what the poster says, we’ll actually be getting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom two weeks earlier than our American cousins, as it will hit Irish cinemas on 8 June 2018.
