JOE

A new TV gig for one of the best young voices on Irish radio.

The broadcasting debut of UTV edges ever closer and today the station made a big announcement about their news and current affairs line-up.

Donoghue currently hosts the breakfast show with Ivan Yates on Newstalk, a job he has held since 2010. The 30-year old is always worth tuning into for his combination of being well briefed on any topic and an engaging manner. However, there is good news for fan of his radio show. It is being reported by Irish Times media journalist Laura Slattery that Donoghue will continue his Newstalk breakfast gig too.

That will be good news for Newstalk in the battle with the behemoth that is Morning Ireland but it means a serious workload for Donoghue, having two demanding jobs.

Update: Here is a statement on the news from Gerard Whelan, CEO of Newstalk said:

“We are delighted for Chris that he has the opportunity to make the break into television. He is an exceptionally talented presenter and broadcaster, this is underlined by his decision to appear on UTV Ireland two nights a week while keeping his key role on Newstalk Breakfast. I’ve no doubt Chris will bring to UTV the same energy and enthusiasm which he delivers to the Breakfast show and its audience every day. Chris has everyone’s support at Newstalk, and we know he’ll be a great success on television also.”
