Nomadland wins Best Picture at 2021 Oscars, no award for Irish animation Wolfwalkers

Anthony Hopkins also won Best Actor, beating out the late Chadwick Boseman.

Nomadland took home three awards at last night's Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Chloé Zhao and Best Actress for Frances McDormand. Set for a release in Ireland on Friday, 30 April through Disney+, Nomadland made history - with its writer-director Zhao becoming the first woman of colour to receive the directing prize. The Irish representative at the awards ceremony Wolfwalkers - made by the Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon - lost in the Best Animated Feature Film category to Pixar's Soul. In a surprise victory, Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for his work in The Father, beating out the bookies favourite in the category - the late Chadwick Boseman, for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Daniel Kaluuya received the Best Supporting Actor prize for Judas and the Black Messiah, as Youn Yuh-Jung took home the Best Supporting Actress Prize for Minari.
