For clarity, we mean the sitcom Friends.

For anyone who, like us, still misses the classic sitcom Friends over 22 years after it wrapped up, we recommend checking out a new-to-streaming comedy series.

This is Not Suitable for Work, which has just been released on Disney+. It was created by the acclaimed writer and comedian Mindy Kaling (The US Office, The Mindy Project, Running Point).

The show follows five work-obsessed 20-something professionals living in the same apartment block in the Murray Hill neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York.

In one of these apartments lives financial analyst Davis (Will Angus), budding journalist and nepo baby Josh (Jack Martin), and aspiring actor Kel (Nicholas Duvernay).

Across the hall, meanwhile, live celebrity stylist Abby (Avantika Vandanapu) and her high school friend AJ (Ella Hunt). The latter is new to New York and happens to work at the same investment bank as Davis.

The series follows the five as they struggle to achieve career success, while also trying to find the time for personal happiness.

JOE has checked out the first two of Not Suitable for Work's nine episodes. Like most sitcoms early in their run, the show is still finding its feet.

It's not quite as joke-dense yet as we'd like. Its episodes, which mostly range from 30-35 minutes (the pilot is 48-minutes length, feel a tad long.

Yet, the cast of young stars is likeable and energetic. Their characters are endearing, even as they continually make mistakes. It helps that these blunders are often relatable, caused by the naivety of youth.

Plus, similarly to Friends (albeit with more swearing), it's an easy watch to follow these funny neighbours living in gorgeous Manhattan as they navigate the grown-up world of work and romance.
