Stephen Porzio

Movies on TV Sunday 9 June

Ethan Hawke stars in the hit horror from 2012.

The weekend is here. As such, why not kick back on the sofa with one of these fine flicks on TV this evening.

Sinister – Horror Channel – 9pm

In our pick for this evening, a crime writer (Ethan Hawke) moves his family into a house where a horrific crime took place previously in the hopes of writing a book about it.

However, upon discovering in the attic a stack of Super 8 home movies depicting grisly murders, he and his family are put in danger.

Without spoiling too much, this twisty and twisted horror puts a modern, unique spin on the classic haunted house story.

While Hawke brings added gravitas to the lead character, what really sticks with viewers is the disturbing footage of the home movies themselves – which were shot on actual Super 8 cameras and film stock for added authenticity.

Olympus Has Fallen – Channel 4 – 9pm

When the White House is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President (Aaron Eckhart) is kidnapped, a disgraced Secret Service agent (Gerard Butler) finds himself trapped within the building and must save the day.

This solid action thriller also features Morgan Freeman.

The Bourne Legacy – ITV 4 – 9pm

Jeremy Renner stars in this decent spin-off of the Bourne franchise, alongside Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz.

Dumb and Dumber – Comedy Central – 9pm

After a woman leaves a briefcase at the airport terminal, a limo driver (Jim Carrey) and his friend (Jeff Daniels) set out on a cross-country road trip to return it.

This classic 90’s comedy solidified Carrey’s reputation as a Hollywood leading man.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – RTÉ Two – 9pm

When Robin Hood returns to England and the tyranny of the Sheriff of Nottingham, he decides to fight back as an outlaw.

Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman star in this epic 90’s retelling of the classic folk tale.

I Love You Phillip Morris – TG4 – 9.35pm

A cop (Jim Carrey) turns con man once he comes out of the closet. After being imprisoned, he meets the second love of his life (Ewan McGregor), with whom he’ll stop at nothing to be with.

Carrey is phenomenal in this underrated dark comedy based on a crazy real-life story.

Eyes of Laura Mars – True Movies – 11.15pm

A famous fashion photographer (Faye Dunaway) develops a disturbing ability to see through the eyes of a killer.

John Carpenter co-wrote this fun, stylish horror which feels like an American take on the old Italian giallo sub-genre.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
