The 2026 breakout hit could be getting a sequel and/or a spin-off series.

Obsession, one of 2026's best movies so far, could be getting a spin-off series in the future, according to its writer-director Curry Barker (The Chair, Milk & Serial).

For those not aware, the horror follows Bear (Michael Johnston, Teen Wolf), a sad, painfully shy romantic who breaks the mysterious "One Wish Willow" so that he can win the heart of his crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette, Superman & Lois).

Soon after getting exactly what he asked for, he discovers that "some desires come at a dark, sinister price."

We here at JOE were huge fans of Obsession, describing it last week as "a bruising and thrilling horror movie, which blends exciting filmmaking and rich themes, something all the more impressive given its modest $1 million budget.

In fact, on the press circuit for Obsession, Barker has been quizzed non-stop about the One Wish Willow's lore and power.

When asked by Total Film about a potential One Wish Willow-themed spin-off to Obsession, the writer-director admitted that the thought had crossed his mind, as well.

That was before he revealed his pitch for an anthology series, à la Black Mirror, focused on the product.

He told the outlet: "I obviously have a couple more things that I'm excited for next. But I do see Obsession 2, maybe, or even, what is really exciting to me, maybe an anthology.

"Like a one-hour episode, each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails, and maybe I'll direct the pilot with the same [cinematographer as Obsession, Taylor Clemons].

"Then you could invite other filmmakers to kind of give their spin on it, and that would be really cool."

In another interview with Collider, Barker also disputed fan theories that all wishes made with the willow are cursed.

The writer-director explained: "It's really funny. Everyone treats the One Wish Willow like it's this cursed thing, and I understand why, because of the context of the movie.

"But the thing is… the thing that Bear wishes for is cursed. Taking away someone’s autonomy, taking away someone’s self, that's cursed.

"The wish itself is a very cursed thing. I do think if you chose your words wisely, the One Wish Willow doesn't have to be [cursed]."

Citing a supporting character in the film, he added: "You see the crystal shop guy. He's like: 'I already used my wish, man.' He must have gotten away with it.

We have to note that even if the One Wish Willow anthology series comes to pass, audiences most likely will be waiting a long time for the show.

That's because Barker is already attached to two major upcoming projects, the already-shot horror Anything But Ghosts (which he stars in opposite Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard) and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot.

In an interview with JOE, we asked the YouTuber-turned-filmmaker how it feels to be getting all these opportunities, particularly after dreaming of being in the movie industry for years.

"It's so funny because I still feel like I'm not in the club. Five years ago, I would just be like: 'You're lying, I don't believe you,' [if you described] what's happening right now," he told us.

"My life has completely changed, and the trajectory has just been going up, and I'm so, so honoured and thrilled to be in this position right now.

"I'm trying to just not think too much about the pressure of it all, and I just want to keep making the things that I like, and the things that make me special or different or whatever you want to call it.

"I want to focus on the art and the craft, and just keep my head down a little bit."

Obsession is out in cinemas right now.
