It has been called the ‘best time travel show since Dark’.

Prime Video’s sci-fi neo-Western thriller Outer Range has returned for a second season and is getting some very positive write-ups – with some critics going as far to say it is among the best science fiction shows currently on TV.

The series first premiered in May 2022 and tells the story of Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher in Wyoming fighting for his family in the wake of the disappearance of a relative, as well as one of his competitors trying to seize the Abbott’s land.

In the middle of all this, Royal discovers a strange, unexplainable dark void at the edge of his property.

“The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens in season two,” a plot synopsis from Prime Video reads.

“The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts. Outer Range’s second season propels its characters deeper into the void with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.”

Produced by Brad Pitt, Outer Range boasts an impressive ensemble cast which also includes Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Lili Taylor (Dogfight), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Tamara Podemski (Reservation Dogs), Tom Pelphrey (A Man in Full) and Will Patton (No Way Out).

The show’s first season earned a cult following, thanks to its oddly gripping blend of Western family drama and sci-fi mystery, its haunting visuals and its truly unpredictable story.

Now, two years since its premiere, the series is finally back for a second season and based on the early reviews, its sophomore batch of episodes might be even better.

You can read a sample of some of the positive reviews for Outer Range season two right here:

Collider: “The bigger leaps that Outer Range takes and the more expansive story it tells are only part of what makes this second season even better than the already solid first.”

Digital Mafia Talkies: “I’ll christen Outer Range with the title of ‘Best Time Travel Show Since Dark'”

Inverse: “It’s still one of the best sci-fi shows on TV.”

TheWrap: “The new season not only gives us impactful interactions with stronger acting moments, but worthwhile new ironies, spiritual dimensions and just plain cool plot twists.”

Outer Range season two is streaming in its entirety now on Prime Video.
