A twisty sci-fi thriller is one of the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It was produced by the filmmaker behind Event Horizon.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 2 May) is Pandorum, a 2009 sci-fi horror thriller starring Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid.

The pair play astronauts named Payton (Quaid) and Bower (Foster) who awake in a hypersleep chamber on a spaceship with no memory of who they are or what their mission might be.

“While Payton stays behind to monitor the radio transmitter, Bower ventures out of the chamber into the seemingly abandoned spaceship,” the plot synopsis reads.

“The men quickly realise that they are not alone and that the fate of mankind hinges on what they do next.”

Produced by Paul W. S. Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil), Pandorum takes its title from a fictional slang term. This is for a form of psychosis caused by deep space and triggered by emotional stress that can lead to severe paranoia, delirium and nosebleeds.

While the movie received mixed initial reviews, in the years since it has attracted a bit of a cult following thanks to its twisty plot and its cool futuristic but lived-in spacecraft setting.

Pandorum is airing on TV tonight on the channel Legend at 9pm. It is also available to rent on Apple TV, Rakuten TV and the Sky Store.
