Peaky Blinders director shares photos of an action-packed season five

Peaky Blinders season 5

The Shelbys are returning with a bang.

A large reason why Peaky Blinders has become so beloved is the incredible talent that’s in front of the camera but the same can be said for the crew and directors that have worked on the show.

Colm McCarthy (Black Mirror, The Girl With All the Gifts), Tim Mielants (The Terror, Legion), Otto Bathurst (His Dark Materials, Robin Hood), Tom Harper (This Is England ’86, Misfits) and Wicklow’s David Caffrey (Love/Hate) have all been some of the men in the director’s chair and it’s now the turn of another Irishman, Anthony Byrne.

Like Caffrey, Byrne has also directed a few episodes of Love/Hate along with The Last Kingdom, Ripper Street and In Darkness.

With season five currently filming, the BBC teased us all with a very brief look at Tommy Shelby facing a fiery fate in a scene that promised that the action stakes have been raised.

At present, a premiere date hasn’t been confirmed by the BBC but over the last few weeks and months, Byrne has been sharing a few behind the scenes images on his own Instagram account.

With regards to the fifth season of the show, it’s currently filming and in an interview with the Birmingham Mail, Steven Knight (creator of Peaky Blinders) revealed that the new season will be set in the 1930s and that it will touch on the rise of fascism.

“We are going into the 30s now. There is so much stuff happening, so why not finish the job? The depression and the rise of fascism form part of the storyline. It is setting those things up. In the 30s across Europe and Britain there was the rise of fascism,” he said.

Truth be told, we’re very intrigued by the fact that despite Tommy’s new political role, the Shelby family are still locked and loaded.

The amount of guns in this shot below can only hint at one thing.
