Peter Sallis, the celebrated voice of Wallace, dies at the age of 96

Star of the Oscar-nominated Wallace And Gromit movies Peter Sallis has passed away.

Aged 96, he died peacefully surrounded by his family.

He had more than 40 feature-length, cinematic roles, but is more recently celebrated for voicing Wallace in a string of five films.

On the small screen, he is best-known for playing Norman Clegg in Last Of The Summer Wine from 1973 until 2010.

He was born in Twickenham on February 1, 1921 and was married to actress Elaine Usher for almost 60 years until her death last year.

Mr Sallis had been suffering from macular degeneration and had done charity work on behalf of the Macular Disease Society.
