PIC: Mel Gibson was spotted at the top of a mountain in Wicklow at the weekend

Conor Heneghan

No better place to enjoy some FREEEEEEDOM.

You may well be aware that one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Mel Gibson, is currently in our midst, filming The Professor and the Madman, an adaptation of Simon Winchester’s 1998 bestseller, The Surgeon of Crowthorne.

Gibson, who is due to spend approximately eight weeks filming in Ireland, has been spotted out and about in Dublin of late and on Sunday, he made it up to the top of the Sugarloaf mountain, where he posed for a picture with JOE reader Heather Fogarty.

Mel is no stranger to Ireland, of course, having filmed Braveheart here way back in the mid-90s, which he discussed with our own Paul Moore when Paul caught up with him ahead of the release of Blood Father not so long ago.

He also recalls a lovely encounter with our President, Michael D Higgins, which you can see in the full interview below.

Cheers to Heather Fogarty for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
