A prequel to Training Day is reportedly in the works

Training Day

King Kong ain’t got shit on me!

Denzel Washington promised that he was going to “burn this motherfucker down” at the end of Training Day but it appears that there’s still some life left in the story.

Of course, Washington won an Oscar for his incredible performance as Alonzo Harris in Antoine Fuqua’s original movie and Collider are reporting that Nick Yarborough has been tasked with writing the script for a prequel to the beloved 2001 crime drama.

In terms of the plot, the film is rumoured to be set almost a decade before the original film with reports stating that it will be set in late April of 1992 — two days before the Rodney King verdict was delivered.

At the time, Los Angeles was a powder keg just waiting to explode, and the verdict led to the L.A. riots.

The report states that the Training Day prequel will follow a younger version of Alonzo Harris, played by Denzel Washington in Fuqua’s beloved original.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Training Day has been adapted in a different way because a TV version of the beloved drama ran for one season in 2017.

However, given the love for the original film and the fact that it went on to gross more than $100 million worldwide, we understand the desire for a prequel.

This being said, this speech will never be topped.
