Netflix has just added Ready or Not, the excellent 2019 horror thriller starring scream queen Samara Weaving (The Babysitter, Scream VI).
In the film, Weaving plays Grace, a young bride who marries the man of her dreams (Mark O'Brien, Republic of Doyle) at his wealthy family's luxurious estate.
"There's just one catch -- she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons," the plot synopsis reads.
"As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives."
A box office hit upon release, the movie earned rave reviews from critics and currently holds an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score.
In particular, its clever and darkly funny screenplay, its claustrophobic mansion setting, its immensely likeable lead turn from Weaving and its fun supporting cast were singled out for praise.
The film was such a success in fact that a sequel was recently greenlit.
You can read a sample of some of the glowing reviews for Ready or Not below:
Chicago Reader: "Weaving comes alive as a hilarious and deeply macabre play on the 'final girl' archetype, and it's nothing short of cathartic to cheer her on and echo the rage that quickly consumes and empowers her."
Empire: "Anchored by a dazzling turn by Samara Weaving, Ready Or Not brilliantly fuses thrills, satire, laughs and horror. Don't count to 100 - just go and see."
News.com.au: "It's wildly entertaining and at a tight 90 minutes, it crackles with energy, never letting your attention waver."
Times (UK): "[A] delicious romp with a game heroine that never takes itself too seriously, and has some pointed things to say about the class system."
Ready or Not is streaming on Netflix and Disney+ in Ireland and the UK right now.
