A sci-fi starring Colin Farrell and four more big trailers you might have missed this week

Stephen Porzio

This week was a big one in terms of trailers.

In the past seven days, trailers dropped for new shows Halo, based on the popular video game franchise, The Offer, which is about the making of The Godfather, and Worst Roommate Ever, a Netflix true-crime documentary series centred around nightmare roommates.

However, while we covered these all in separate articles, there were plenty more big teasers that dropped this week, which we’ve compiled here for your perusal.

After Yang

Set in the near future, this drama focuses on a family (the patriarch of which is played by Colin Farrell) who attempt to save the life of their AI helper after he unexpectedly breaks down.

With its beautiful emotional trailer, this sophomore feature from video essayist turned filmmaker Kogonada (if you haven’t seen his great debut Columbus, seek it out) looks set to use sci-fi elements to probe universal human feelings, such as connection, love and loss.

Having premiered at Cannes Film Festival last year to rave reviews – it currently has an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes – After Yang will be released in the US on 4 March, so you can expect it in Ireland sometime after.

Gaslit

Moving onto TV, Julia Roberts stars in this 70s-set political limited series as Martha Mitchell, the celebrity socialite and wife to President Richard Nixon’s loyal Attorney General John N. Mitchell (an unrecognisable Sean Penn).

Despite her husband’s position, she was the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in the Watergate scandal.

With its starry cast and glossy retelling of true events, Gaslit looks set to appeal to fans of the likes of American Crime Story.

The show has not got an Irish release date yet but will premiere in the States on 24 April.

Shining Girls / The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey

Speaking of star-studded TV series, Apple TV+ unveiled teasers this week for two of their upcoming shows with big names attached.

The first to premiere will be The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey on 11 March, which comes from writer Walter Mosley (Devil in a Blue Dress) and will see Samuel L. Jackson play an old man with dementia who investigates the death of his nephew.

Out a couple of weeks later on 29 April will be Shining Girls, featuring Elizabeth Moss as a woman who learns that a recent murder is linked to an assault she suffered years previously that left her in a constantly shifting reality.

Killing Eve Season 4

Last but not least, much-loved black-comedy/spy thriller Killing Eve returns for its fourth and final season this month.

Debuting in the US on 27 February before its Irish premiere, fans will be hoping for a satisfying resolution to the strange cat-and-mouse game between spy Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer).
