The trailer for Treehouse Of Horror XXIX shows The Simpsons finally tackling a specific classic scary movie

We can’t believe it has taken them this long to get to this one.

In the lead-up to Treehouse Of Horror XXIX (yep, we’ve almost got 30 of these now), we can probably all agree that even as the show has declined over the years, no matter which Halloween special is on, you’re probably going to sit down and watch the whole thing.

Over the years, The Simpsons has tackled some of the most famous horror movies of all time, and it looks like this year, they’re finally taking on one of the most iconic scary films ever made.

The new trailer, which was dropped as part of the Comic-Con taking place in San Diego this weekend, shows the family and their Springfield neighbours in the midst of an Invasion Of The Body Snatchers-type scenario.

It kicks off with a fantastic visual gig featuring the Planet Express ship from Futurama being blown to bits by the Orville (both of which are Fox shows, but also puts a nice little dig into why we’ll probably never see Futurama return, considering how poorly The Orville was received by critics and viewers alike), it soon drops back to Earth and shows Lenny, Carl, Disco Stu and Comic-Book Guy as the first victims to the alien spores.

We don’t actually get to see The Simpsons themselves deal with the invasion, but we’re sure they’re saving all that good stuff (fingers crossed) for the actual episode reveal itself.

Invasion Of The Pod-y Snatchers, Geriatric Park (which we could probably guess the set-up for), and a currently untitled third chapter will all be a part of this year’s Halloween special episode, which is set to air in October.
