Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain teach us how to do a very scary, very evil stare

Rory Cashin

They also both discuss what their favourite part of being in Ireland was!

2019 is obviously going to be a pretty big year for both Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain.

Not that they haven’t had huge years previously in their careers, and will likely continue to have huge years for the foreseeable future, but 2019 is going to be particularly huge for them both.

For starters, Chastain is one of the leads in IT: Chapter 2, the sequel to the biggest horror movie of all time, while Turner has seen the end of Game Of Thrones, arguably the biggest TV show of all time.

Plus, they’re both in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, that latest entry in the mutant saga following the fellow prequels First Class, Days Of Future Past, and Apocalypse.

This time around, Turner is back as Jean Grey, on the verge of fully realising her mutant powers’ full abilities, and Chastain plays the mysterious “Smith” (not her real name), who has arrived for nefarious reasons.

JOE was lucky enough to sit down with the two actresses to discuss their roles in the movie, as well as how much they both loved their time spent in Ireland, the difficulties of keeping secrets in high-profile projects (y’know, like Game Of Thrones and stuff!), who Chastain ACTUALLY plays in the movie, and a quick history of female heroes and female villains in comic book movies.

But first, and most importantly, a masterclass in how to give scary, evil, dead-eyed stares…

JOE was also lucky enough to chat to the movie’s writer/director Simon Kinberg, as well as producer Hutch Parker, who has been a part of the X-Men franchise since 2013’s The Wolverine. You can check out all of those interviews right here.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is released in Irish cinemas from Wednesday 5 June.
